There are numerous variables that, sadly, add to the low utilization of Internet. The majority of the ICT improvement has been gathered in the city communities like Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, and Surabaya, while rustic zones need access to even the most fundamental telecom framework. Phone and PC get to have bit by bit expanded throughout the years, yet these figures are still extremely low. Another principle angle adding to the little utilization of ICTs is the restricted information and utilization of English in Indonesia. The national language of Indonesia, a vernacular of Malay, is utilized in instruction, government, and business. That is the reason the capacity to utilize the Internet is exceptionally restricted. Be that as it may, regardless of a variety of land, political, and monetary deterrents, progress has been made in the activity and utilization of the Internet in Indonesia with the help of neighborhood networks. Likewise, a huge strides forward has been made in the dispersion of ICT training in the nation.

Blog Archive USC Marshall Essay Analysis, 20182019

Blog Archive USC Marshall Essay Analysis, 2018â€"2019 *Please note: You are viewing an essay analysis from the 2018-2019 admissions cycle.  Click here  to view our collection of essay analyses for the current admissions season. For this application season, the University of Southern California (USC) Marshall School of Business is largely maintaining the same application essay approach and prompts it used last year, with just some small tweaks. For the first (mini) essay, applicants must detail their immediate short-term career goal, with little room for any further discussion. For the second (more standard length) required essay, candidates can choose from three prompt options, two of which were held over from the choices presented last year. Given that one of those choices was “You have been hired by the Marshall MBA Admissions Committee to create an essay question for next year’s application,” we cannot help but be curious whether the new option in the list was the brainchild of one of last year’s applicants! We may never know the origin of the newâ€"rather creative and thought provokingâ€"prompt, but we can still do our best to guide you in preparing to write your essay responses. Our full analys is of Marshall’s suite of questions follows. Essay 1: What is your specific, immediate short-term career goal upon completion of your MBA? Please include an intended position, function, and industry in your response. (word limit: 100) Quite simply, Marshall wants to know that you have a specific intention in mind and are not just applying to business school with the expectation of figuring everything out later, once you are enrolled in the program. Many MBA applicants have a long-term vision for their career, of course, but with this prompt, Marshall is asking you to prove you have really given thought to the necessary steps in between. Your goal in this short essay is therefore to demonstrate that you do indeed have a plan, not just broad ambition. The school’s other key concern is whether its MBA program is truly the right one to help you attain your stated goal and that you have done the necessary research to discover and confirm this for yourself. Marshall has very little impetus to admit youâ€"and you have very little to attend itâ€"if you will not ultimately be equipped or positioned to pursue your intended goal once you graduate! For example, if you aspire to work in a field or position for which Marshall is not known to have particularly strong courses, professors, or other offerings, or if you want to work for a company that has no recruiting history with the program, it might not be the best choice to get you where you want to go right away. At just 100 words maximum, your response needs to be fairly forthright. Avoid any generalities and vagueness. Do your research to ensure that Marshall can indeed position you to attain what you intend, and simply spell things out. Given that this essay involves at least one key element of a traditional personal statement, we encourage you to download your free copy of our mbaMission Personal Statement Guide, which provides further advice (with examples!) of how to effectively craft such essays. Essay 2: Please respond to ONLY ONE of the following essay topics: (word limit: 500) 1) If you could pack the story of your life in a briefcase with 10 items, what items would you pack and why? Respond in list form. Marshall is jumping right into the creative essay prompt trend with this option! The first thing to keep in mind as you brainstorm for this essay is that the “items” in your virtual briefcase here do not have to be actual, tangible things. “The memory of my grandfather” could be one, for example. “My sense of humor” could be another. And we want to stress that a briefcase is more than just a simple container that holds thingsâ€"otherwise, the school could have said “box” or “closet” or suchâ€"and carries with it the ideas of both movement and one’s career. Why would you want to bring the items you have listed with you as you move into the next phase of your professional life? What do they provide you, or what have you gained or learned from them? Think of the many “things” (experiences, skills, values, character traits, responsibilities, friends and family members, heritage, hobbies, goals, etc.) that make you who you are today, in addition to actual, tangible items that are important to you. You want to choose a variety that presents you as a well-rounded individual with an interesting breadth of qualities, experiences, interests, and abilities, so make sure that the items in your suitcase are not too heavily concentrated in just one area of your life. Although the “briefcase” concept implies, as we have said, that the items in some way relate to your professional choices and aspirations, this does not mean that the individual items themselves must all be from your work background. For example, the “memory of my grandfather” item would not likely be from someone’s career, but that candidate’s grandfather may have instilled in him/her a strong work ethic or an interest that is now part of the person’s career path. You also do not have to present the items in chronological order. Furthermore, if you feel that some of your chosen items are more compelling or representative than others, consider putting a few at the beginning of your list and the others at the very end, so they can make the strongest impact. If you choose this essay option, your final essay will obviously (we hope!) be more than a simple list of ten items. The school gives you 500 words for this essay, so the expectation is clearly that each thing you list will be accompanied by an explanation as to why you have included it among your ten itemsâ€"why it is so meaningful to you. 2) You are asked to design a course to be taught at the Marshall School of Business. Please provide a title and description for the course. To craft an effective response to this essay prompt, you will need to start by doing some comprehensive research. The absolute, number-one no-no in this situation would be suggesting a course that already exists at the schoolâ€"or, just to be safe, that has been offered within the past year or two. So the first step will be getting some initial ideas for subject areas, but the immediate (and indispensable) second step will be taking some time to thoroughly read through the school’s current class offerings in those areas as well as those from last year and even the year before. You do not need to be an expert in the subject matter of the hypothetical class you pitch. After all, Marshall is not asking you to teach it, simply to envision it and explain its potential value. Naturally, the course needs to be fitting for MBA-level study/students and be relevant in some way to current or projected business practices. A good route to consider would be to simply think about what kind of class you would like to take and why. What do you want to learn more about while you are in business school? What skills do you feel you need to develop to be successful going forward? Identify this kind of information and imagine what a course that addresses those interests and needs would entail and look like. Then compare your newly envisioned class against what is already available and tweak your proposal as necessary to ensure it is distinct from the school’s existing options. Be sure to go beyond simply describing the course (and do not forget to give the class an actual title!) and dedicate a few lines of your essay to how the class would be helpful to an MBA student. Perhaps, for example, offer ideas for career paths the course would be well suited for.   3) You have been hired by the Marshall MBA Admissions Committee to create an essay question for next year’s application. Please state the question and answer it. In a way, the admissions committee seems to be asking you, “What do you want to tell us about yourself and your candidacy?” and hoping to gain an idea of your level of creativity at the same time. A number of top MBA programs have offered some rather clever and innovative essay prompts in recent yearsâ€"signature songs, six-word stories, random lists, photo selections, tables of contents, etc.â€"but Marshall may be restricting your creative side a bit in this case by stipulating that you must actually respond to your proposed question, not just imagine it. So if you plan to go the imaginative route, be sure to craft an option that you can then offer a strong essay response to, but keep in mind that you can also just offer a prompt that gets at an important element of your profile that you want to share with the admissions committee, with no special bells or whistles. That said, because you also have the optional essay, if you want or need it, with which to address any “additional information” you believe the school needs to know to evaluate you thoroughly, we think this essay prompt may be best reserved for applicants who do have a strong imaginative or creative bent. Consider all your options for the school’s Essay 2 to make sure that you are choosing the one that allows you to share your most compelling stories.   Optional Essay: Please provide any additional information that will enhance our understanding of your candidacy for the program. (word limit: 250)   In general, we believe candidates should use a school’s optional essay to explain confusing or problematic issues in their candidacy, which this prompt does indeed allow. So, if you need to, use this opportunity to address any questions the admissions committee might have about your profileâ€"a poor grade or overall GPA, a low GMAT or GRE score, a gap in your work experience, etc. Consider downloading our mbaMission Optional Essays Guide, in which we offer detailed advice (and multiple examples) on how best to approach the optional essay to mitigate any problem areas in your application. However, Marshall clearly leaves the door open for you to discuss any other information about your candidacy that you feel may be pivotal or particularly compellingâ€"that you think the admissions committee truly needs to know to be able to evaluate you fully and effectively. We caution you against submitting a response to this prompt just because you fear that not doing so would somehow count against you, though. Remember that with each additional essay you write, you are asking the admissions committee to do extra work on your behalf, so you must make sure that added time is warranted. If you decide to use this essay to impart information that you believe would render your application incomplete if omitted, strive to keep your submission brief and on point. What Is a Holdfast in Marine Life

A holdfast is a root-like structure at the base of an alga  (seaweed) that fastens the alga to a hard substrate like a stone. Other aquatic organisms like sponges,  crinoids, and cnidarians also use holdfasts to anchor themselves to their environmental substrates, which can range from muddy to sandy to hard. Types of Holdfasts and Substrates An organisms holdfast will differ in shape and structure depending  on the substrate type and the organism itself. For example, organisms that live in sandy substrates will have holdfasts that are flexible and bulb-like whereas organisms in surrounded by muddy substrates may have holdfasts that resemble complex root systems. Organisms  that anchor themselves to smooth, hard surfaces like stones or boulders, on the other hand, will likely have a holdfast with a flat base.   The Difference Between Roots and Holdfasts Holdfasts are different from plant roots because they do not absorb moisture or nutrients; they serve only as an anchor. The alga doesnt get nutrition from the object that it is connected to, just a way to stay stationary. For example, the southern kelp has a claw-like holdfast that attaches it to mussels, rocks and other hard surfaces. Unlike plant roots, holdfasts can outlive the organism that relied on them.  For example, while the sea  kelp may only live for a month or two, kelp  holdfasts can live and continue to grow for up to 10 years. Holdfasts can also provide shelter for other sea creatures. The tangled system of certain types of holdfasts can protect many marine species from kelp crabs to tube worms, particularly their young.

Governmental Regulation And “Red Tape” Is Often The Target

Governmental regulation and â€Å"red tape† is often the target of the people who see an ineffective government and a bloated public administration. Red tape is the complex process which administrators much go through to solve a problem or conduct normal business. Regulations are additional requirements for businesses and the people which may have the potential to harm the economy. Red tape and regulations are the problem with this nations bureaucracy. To demonstrate this problem, two models of bureaucratic dysfunction will be explored. This examination will be followed by a discussion of the bureaucratic problem. The public bureaucracy has always been the target of great scrutiny. The have been seen as unproductive and/or hungry for power.†¦show more content†¦Trained incapacity occurs when an individual relies upon previous training to such an extent that they will mold a situation to fit their training even if it does not. The fourth aspect of the model is goal dis placement which occurs when individuals blindly follows instructions and the goals of the organization. Blindly following the organizations goals diminishes the role of reflection and employee initiated reforms. The final aspect of the first model is dual system of authority. This occurs when individuals are asked to step outside of their training or approach an issue from a different training procedure. On page 173, the author claim its similar to â€Å"getting a doctor to think of a problem from a legal or engineering perspective† (Knott Miller, 1987, 173). The first model, based upon the writings of James March and Herbert Simons, places the blame on organizations failing to meet their stated objectives on the individual. The second model does not place the same blame on the individual as the first one does. Instead, the majority of the blame is placed upon the structure of the organization. Individuals work most of the time to better their own self-interest. This is the main dilemma of the second model, as it is very difficult to â€Å"structure an organization so that individuals, in pursing their own self-interest, are always working for the organization’s best interes t at the same time† (Knott Miller, 1987, 174). Essential Skills for Software Architects

Question: Discuss about the Essential Skills for Software Architects. Answer: Introduction Innovation can be defined as the improving of a product or a service to make it more valuable to a consumer.Innovation also occurs when we break down components and find better ways of testing or using them differently so as to come up with something new or better (Degraff, 2014). There are four types if innovation. Product innovation is when an organization comes up with a new product or service or enhances the already existing ones. Product innovation assists a company to get a competitive advantage due to differentiation (Voehl, 2015). It is a necessity for companies to keep innovating. Consumer behavior keeps changing rapidly, and companies must keep up with coming up with new solutions for products or improvement of existing ones so as to drive growth (Cuellar, 2015). Process Innovation is the process by which an organization adds value to its supply processes hence improving its effectiveness and efficiency. This leads to lower costs within the company (Voehl, 2015).The company can introduce a new sequence to its production line that speeds it up by a huge percentage thereby saving time and money. It requires a longer planning period and high support as it is quite risky. It can create value to both internal and external customers as the company will highly gain from the quality of the product and also levels of service (Rouse, 2015). Technological Innovation is the adoption of new technology into an organization. It also identifies new trends that are aligned with a businesss goals and also takes a look at where the organizations technology and industry are heading. A company should get time to survey new technologies and also trends. Successful companies enable employees to have innovation-time so as to research on any new areas (Hendricksen, 2014). Service Innovation occurs in different ways and through different inputs like training of staff, marketing, knowledge and research, and development. They are hard to protect and can be imitated quite easily. Theres a great need for talent in service innovation hence the company must invest heavily in its human resources. It can also be achieved by improving service delivery, locating businesses strategically or innovations on how to handle the sales area (Morrar, 2014). Process Innovation-Six Sigma The process innovations are Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma. Six-Sigma is how organizations focus on improving a business process statistically. It focuses on qualitative measures to measure qualitative markers in a process to improve business functions. The company first defines a process that has faults, and this is decided by analyzing the company goals or requirements. The company then measures how the process is currently performing by looking at inputs and benchmarking performance. The next step is isolating each of the inputs and doing tests to determine the root of the problem. The system performance is then improved, and controls are added to the processes so that they do not become ineffective again (Pedersen, 2014).Toyota is a very successful implementer of the Six Sigma methods. This has enabled it to be the worlds top three companies due to its lean manufacturing implementation, which has been replicated worldwide (Sixsigma 2015). There are two main methodologies within Six-Sigma. The first is DMAIC, which is used to improve the already existing business processes. These letters stand for Defining the problem and project goals, Measuring aspects of the already existing process, analyzing data so as to find root causes of defects, improving the process and controlling how to do the project in future. Another method is DMADV, which is used to create new processes or new products and services. These letters stand for Defining goals for the project, Measuring process components and capabilities of the product, Analyzing data and development of designs to choose the best, designing and testing the process and verification of the design through piloting and simulating before handing over to a client (Sixsigma 2015). Six Sigma also contains management tools. The first tool is Five Whys which questions the root causes of an issue. The company should look at the final problem and then ask themselves why it occurred. This process was first implemented at Toyota. Another management tool is CTQ tree,' which is critical to quality tree diagram. It breaks down what composes a process to come up with a final product that will satisfy customers. The final management tool is root cause analysis. Here, the business attempts to identify a root cause and correct it to the core. All these tools have a purpose of streamlining business processes to come up with the best products and services with the least defects. The fact that many companies around the world have adopted it means it is a huge success (Sixsigma 2015). Milestones for Six-Sigma Innovation The six-sigma concept has achieved many milestones since its invention. There is a concept known as DFSS, which is design for six sigma. This is a method used to design a new product or to re-design an already existing product so that it can meet customer requirements and also meet the expected six-sigma quality level. DFSS is about getting everything right initially instead of later improvements. Another milestone has been DFLSS which is Design for Lean Six Sigma. In this concept, lean is added to the whole process. This aims at combining tools and techniques and minimizing processes (Sixsigma 2015). There is also six-sigma certification that has been adopted by many organizations. A belt signifies the experience that someone has in six-sigma. A black belt has skills and knowledge related to DMAIC, the leadership of teams and implementation of lean methods. They are able to lead any team in executing six-sigma. A green belt expert does not have any experience in statistical tools, but he is trained on DMAIC methodology. A yellow belt has expertise in the general lean six sigma tools and concepts. They can act as the project team leaders. Champions are top managers who work with black belts to make sure that any barriers to the project success are removed. A white belt has awareness training and knows basic improvement of processes (Sixsigma 2015). Effect of Six Sigma process on organizations Organizations that make Six sigma innovation their key focus position themselves to be outstanding and profitable. Six Sigma has led to the success of many organizations. Organizations that adopt Six Sigma have benefited from creativity. An example of such a company is the Kimberely-Clark Corporation. The company had subjected its staff to long shifts which led to the increase in the rate of absenteeism by 10%.The company outsourced its logistics to Unipart, and this enabled the company to spend more on staff development and engagement, resulting in improved efficiency (ManufucturingGlobal,2014). Organizations that focus on Six Sigma also benefit from Leadership. Such companies are leaders in process innovations, and other companies follow and try to piggyback on their achievement. An example is Intel, which is the worlds largest computer chip maker. The company now introduces new chips into its factory within 10 days as compared to 14 weeks previously (ManufucturingGlobal,2014). Organizations that focus on six-sigma process innovation are advantaged as they have experience. This ability to constantly repeat a process sets them a distance apart from other companies. John Deere is an example of such a company. They were the worlds largest manufacturer of agricultural machinery, and they adopted lean manufacturing which totally transformed their engineering mindset. Organizations that focus on Six-Sigma Methods do not need to over-advertise as their names are already known brands in the industry and customers wait for them to launch new products continually. An example is cosmetics company LOreal (FC, 2015). It was established in 1909 and currently has over 30 brands and has grown worldwide. The company manages to stay at the top of its game by ensuring there are active researches and continuous process development. The company also implemented Six Sigma through their ISIS project (Loreal, 2015). Future Developments in Six-Sigma Innovation As companies continue to use six sigma to evolve, so do the processes that will be involved. In the future, it seems that most companies will focus more on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which is a six sigma component. This is a type of measurement for how a department is performing. Some of the Key performance Indicators that a company can use for process innovation is looking at the percentage of product that has defects. The higher the number of defects, the more the company will have to look at its processes (Jackson, 2015). 3D Printing is a technical development that will have a major impact on the future of six sigma. The technology will ultimately change the whole face of manufacturing. Complex objects will be created within a short period of time without the aid of manpower (Sixsigma 2016). Another future development in six-sigma is the internet of things (IOT). This is a technology that allows electronic devices to be connected together and they can communicate without human intervention. This will be very useful in manufacturing processes as once there is a defect the machines will communicate with each other and send a notification hence reduced downtimes, less waste and improved quality (Robinson,2015). Conclusion Innovation is key for any organization that wants to remain relevant in its respective industry. Companies must, therefore, invest heavily in research and development to continually improve processes. The Six sigma approach has ensured the success of many companies around the world and more organizations are taking it up. References Cuellar, J.2015.
